The Valhalla

The "Valhalla" is a 65 ft wooden sailing ship being built in Marmaris, Turkey.
The Turks have a long history (since 300 BC) of
building war ships, called Gulets, for their Kings and Armies.
These Gulets are still being built for leisure purposes.
The "Valhalla" is a custom, all-wood schooner fashioned after a 16th
century spanish galleon. She has twin 55 ft masts with 6 sails and each with a crow's nest.
The beam is 18 ft wide with a flush main deck, and raised bridge
and forcastle. She is powered by the wind and also by two 210 HP diesel engines.
The European Coast Guard has approved her for 75 passengers including
crew (although that number may change when in local waters).
The Valhalla will be arriving soon so keep a weather eye out for her.
**UPDATE** The keel has been laid and a mighty ship is begun!
